Tastes Like Grapes

Permalink Protos Tinto Fino, 2010From the all Spanish wine store in the East Village, brought by DanielleClassy label with a four-car garage on it.Everyone liked it a lot, but I missed taking good notes on it because the tumblr app was taking too long to upload the previous post (also this is out of order)

100% Monastrell grapes (which is the same things as mouvedre)
Fun, fresh label, “it says ‘Green Blood’, right?” & there’s a lawn mower on the back.
De grassy, Friendly, like a freshly picked dandelion.
Tobacco on the nose.
Tastes like grapes.
And then we started talking about teenage sex fantasies again.

“50 shades of red”
And now we’re talking about erotica.
Great label — reason for purchase —possibly resembles an emoji? the stripes on the foil makes it the trendy blogger of wines.
Little bit of smokiness little bit of sweetness, good with a meal. (“are you sure you’re not describing Javier Bardem?”)
Full bodied, complex blend

Peppery AND SweetRich, multilayered, mineraly, tannic
Michelle likes it with food

Fun, modern label (finally)
From a small region with not a lot of wine production
Bright & young tasting, like a mddle school girl compared to the much heavier flavors of the other wines we tried.
Strawberries on the nose
Caramel notes.
Melanie likes it. Michelle does too, but doesn’t think it’s very red-winey.

This one’s from la mancha, much like the man.
It’s leggy. Tannic. Caramely and sweet—good for after dinner.
Does not go with anchovies

Poem on the label, maybe in “old” Spanish
Tannic and full-bodied.
Smells like a sweet tart wrapper, tastes like NyQuilChanged from the first sip to the last
And then we talked about 2005—“I was moving to NYC in 2005” “That’s when a lot of us met!”“I was a freshman in college”“I was a freshman in life.”
Permalink Ribeira Sacra Mencia A FugaAstor Wines, $12 — brought by Sylvie“It says something that I translated loosely as river of blood,” — Mel says (probably actually SACRED river)
Interesting bottle shape got lots of love, label is good too.
Gamey & Funky“It gets weirder every time I drink it” “I recommend it for Twilight fans” Some really like it in spite of or because of the weirdness, others hate it.
Good with a steak or fresh caught venison, or a rich chicken dish.
The first time Susan goes hunting she’s bringing this wine.
